My design career actually began back in fifth grade when my friends and I would get together after buying the latest comic books and spend all our free time drawing the characters. Unfortunately, my friends were always better than I was at depicting a realistic figure or awesome background. Instead I turned to cartooning as an outlet for the creative juices I had. I also was involved heavily in music and decided to pursue a degree in Music Education. My teaching career lasted exactly two years. So, looking for work I took a temporary job as an appliance and television salesman that lasted seven years! But during those long seven years I continued to hone my cartooning skills with the dream of becoming a big-time published comic strip creator. I certainly have the rejection slips to prove that I had this dream for quite a while. When I realized the appliance business was no longer for me I became a freelance graphic artist. And it was the best thing I ever did.

I was soon hired at US West Market Information Products, producing artwork via pen and ink for use in phone and map directories. I learned valuable skills with that pen that I cherish to this day. The use of gray scale to create the illusion of depth and tone, the art of line width to denote distance, the four color printing process and how to use bleed and dot gain, the design of advertising to draw in and keep the eye, leading it to the desired payout. After a couple of years I was introduced to Adobe Illustrator and a new method of creating graphics. Photoshop soon followed and I was certain my career was set. I moved to US West Direct, the major phone directory in this area and fast became one of the best graphic designer there, winning multiple design awards including their prestigious Leadership Award for best black and white ad for 1999.

The company changed hands - and names - a few times during the 2000's and in 2005 made the decision to scale back their graphics force which affected myself and very many talented artists. This is when Crandallgrafix Design was born. I have now branched out to web design, animation, flyer and business card design, book design, and all other forms of advertising, branding and graphic art. I've even had many of my cartoons published in various magazines and newspapers!

I am just as excited to create outstanding graphics as I ever was. Heck, there's so much to still learn as the industry is constantly changing. And I am changing with it.
